Intel Core I3-9100 3.6 GHz (4.2 GHz Turbo) LGA 1151 Desktop Processor SRCZV

$49.99

The 9th generation of Intel Core processors, known as “Coffee Lake Refresh,” was announced in the second half of 2018. This generation maintained the 14nm++ process technology used in the preceding 8th generation (Coffee Lake) but introduced processors with increased core counts and improved clock speeds across various SKUs (Stock Keeping Units). Notably, the 9th generation brought 8-core processors into the mainstream segment, and the flagship Core i9-9900K became particularly popular among enthusiasts and gamers for its high-performance capabilities, featuring 8 cores and 16 threads with a base clock speed of 3.6 GHz and a turbo boost up to 5.0 GHz.

The 9th generation continued to utilize the LGA 1151 socket but required 300 series chipsets, similar to the 8th generation, to operate. It brought enhancements in thermal design for improved heat dissipation and sustained performance, particularly in the high-end SKUs. The processors in this generation supported DDR4 memory and continued to provide robust support for high-performance computing, gaming, and content creation. With a blend of increased core counts, elevated clock speeds, and enhancements in thermal and power management, the 9th generation of Intel Core processors provided a robust platform for a spectrum of users, from gamers to professionals, enabling a rich computing experience and solid performance across various applications and workloads.

Description

About this Intel CPU:

This Intel CPU has been tested and pulled from working systems. Some scratches and scrapes may be present on the heat spreader, but these cosmetic imperfections do not affect functionality. We make every effort to remove all thermal paste; however, some residue may still remain.

Please ensure compatibility between your motherboard and this processor before purchasing.

9th Generation note.
The 8th and 9th Generation CPUs have the same socket, however, are there conflicts between the 8th and 9th gen boards to consider?
Answer: Yes

The 8th and 9th generation Intel Core processors both utilize the LGA 1151 socket and are generally compatible with Intel 300 series chipsets. However, while 8th generation processors (Coffee Lake) are typically compatible with all 300 series motherboards, 9th generation processors (Coffee Lake Refresh) may require a motherboard that specifically supports these CPUs, particularly when considering the higher-end models with increased core counts and thermal design power (TDP).

When the 9th generation processors were launched, many motherboard manufacturers released BIOS updates for their existing 300 series motherboards (initially released for 8th gen processors) to support the new 9th generation processors. However, it’s crucial to note that certain 9th generation processors, especially high-end models like the Core i9-9900K, may require motherboards with enhanced power delivery systems to ensure stable operation due to their higher core counts and TDP.

So, while there is a degree of cross-compatibility between 8th and 9th generation processors and motherboards, there are considerations regarding power delivery and thermal management that users should be mindful of. It’s always recommended to check the CPU support list for a specific motherboard model on the manufacturer’s website to confirm compatibility with a particular processor and to ensure the motherboard has the appropriate BIOS version installed to support the CPU.

Common compatibility errors can lead to a non-functional product after installation.

When installing processors, it is essential to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines. Even minor damage to the receiving pins on Intel motherboards during or before installation can result in nonfunctional or improperly functioning processors or systems.
